A former public defender with seven years of civil and criminal trial experience, Michael Sobel now represents firefighters, police officers and other public employees in employment matters involving municipal and county governments. He also represents defendants in criminal cases. Michael’s civil litigation experience includes discovery management, depositions, motion practice and trial support in both federal and state courts.
Michael earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. There, he won the Moot Court Advocacy Award as a first-year and later co-chaired the first-year moot court program.
Before joining Haney & Shah, Michael took a hiatus from the practice of law, during which he worked as a stay-at-home dad, sold two screenplays, and earned a black belt in Shotokan Karate.
